Local stock markets are likely to start on a cautious note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are trading 0.32 points higher, suggesting a mildly positive start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market closed on a weak note in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 a tad lower.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 4.81% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has slipped 4.69% over the same period.

In Asia today, sentiment was soft. China’s SSE Composite Index posted modest losses of 0.16% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 drifted lower 0.84%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index eased 1.35%.

Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 582 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,509 crore in the Indian equity market on 9 September 2026, provisional data showed.

Overnight on Wall Street, stocks posted modest losses across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished lower by 405.41 points, or 0.77%, and closed at 52401.66. The S&P 500 slipped 0.47% to end at 7658.70, and the NASDAQ Composite drifted lower 0.63% to 26276.10.

Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex edged lower 813.35 points or 1.08% to 74764.23. The Nifty 50 index slipped 203.60 points or 0.86% to 23431.50. Adani Enterprises Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, rising slightly by 5.13% to Rs 3104.70. The stock has moved higher around 1.43% in last one-week and trades lower 10.47% over last one-month.

In sectoral indices, only Nifty Metal index ticked up yesterday, advancing 1.79% on the day.
